THE FAUNA
The fauna of the Park offers peculiarities of exceptional value, finally defended in theri totality, after years of poaching and persecution.
In this context is nowadays present a great variety of animals which once were living in the whole Apennines.
It has been counted 60 species of mammiferous, 300 birds, 40 of reptiles, amphibian, fishes and innumerable species of insects.
It can't be said simple to the visitor to catch sight of the animals if not in conditions of quiet. In these conditions, it is possible catch sight also of the animals more representative of the Park, like: the Chamois of Abruzzo (Rupicapra Ornata), defined as "the most beautiful chamois of the world", for which the extinction has been avoid miraculously; 
the Marsican Brown Bear (Ursus Arctos Marsicanus), certainly the most famous animal of these places and the very symbol of the Park. This species, which is leading a roaming life, nocturnal in general, recollecting maybe the negative experience with the men, is present in the protected area with about one hundred specimen. The Marsican bear is considered a subspecies highly differentiated of the European brown bear, with distinct morphological, genetical, ethological and ecological peculiarities. No other brown bears seem so tolerant and peaceful when confronted to the man;
the
Apenninian Wolf (Canis Lupus Italicus) is another of the wonderful animals returned to restock the Park. It is present only in the park context, were he has met again its natural habitat. It is interesting to note that following the come back of the "ungulatus", its exceptional quarries, the wolf has restarted with success to hunt as a pack;
the Lynx (Lynx lynx), mysterious animal to which the local populations gave the name of "Wolf of the deers" or "leopard". It seems survived in the Park in a small wrecked nuclei, nowadays helped by the increased environmental protection and by the larger availability of quarries.
It is not difficult to meet in the Prk the deer, the roe-deer, the fox, the hare, the mole, the hedgehog, the weasel, the dormouse and the suirrel. More occasional are instead the sighting of animals such as the otter, the marten , the beech-marten, the badger and the polecat.
But the animals easier in absolute to admire on the rich ladscape of the Park are those part of the winged fauna, including about 230 different species of birds: among the birds of prey, the most prominent are the royal eagle, the fool-owl, the goshawk, the royal owl. When you will be able to observe the abovementioned specimen, do it in the dead silence, not to disturb and oblige then to run away.
