The Wool Museum

The Wool Museum of Scanno is a museum representative of the identity of a town (Scanno) and a valley (the Valle del Sagittario). It reconstructs the pastoral culture of the Abruzzo region through the tools, the images of the saints, the inside of the house.
The museum reconstructs the manufacturing of wool, pelt, cheeses, vellum. It collects documents concerning the history of the families and the working life of the community that has lived in the Valle del Sagittario.
The first exhibition held by the museum (1996) is: The every day life 1880-1930. It is arranged in 3 scenes: the work, the house, the religion.
The museum is a data-bank for historical images of the town and the valley and the religion. It is a reference point for wool and fashion producers. It represents the only collection concerning "material culture" of the Abruzzo region.
The museum has been planned taking into account new theories of communication techniques in the museums, and of didactic of history and "material culture" formulated by Michele Rak of Siena University and realized by Centro Studi for Abruzzo's image.
